L’Oreal True Match
One of my all time favourite foundations is the L’Oreal True Match and it has been for quite a while now. The colour range is unbelievable, it’s one of the only drug store ranges that actually have a really light colour that matches my skin. Knowing how much I love this foundation, I thought I’d check out more of the range and see what else L’Oreal had to offer. I picked up the foundation, concealer and the powder highlighter.
L’Oreal True Match Foundation
The packaging is really simple, but I really like it, It’s a glass bottle with silver a pump action lid, which is definitely my favourite type. The bottle is also a square shape, which doesn’t make it any difference, except it looks a bit nicer I suppose. You get 30ml for £9.99, pretty good I’d say.
The foundation really lives up to the label of ‘true match’ because both colours that I have used, Ivory & Rose Ivory, both seem to match my skin tone perfectly somehow, and it’s definitely my favourite thing about this foundation. The lightest shade is actually really light for once and the unbelievable range of colours means everyone can use this foundation, no matter your skin tone.
The coverage is medium to high and can be built up for a completely full coverage look, but it still feels quite weightless on the skin, I also find it works best when using a oil controlling primer, because it can feel a bit greasy around the nose after a few hours wear, but it can be easily topped up with a bit of powder. It blends really nicely and works well with other cream products such as concealer and contour. I’d definitely say it lasts, the only problem is around the nose area if you suffer with oily skin.
L’Oreal True Match Concealer
The packaging of the concealer is one of the things that I really didn’t like, although the sponge type applicator is really good, you just don’t get enough product for the price that you’re paying, you only get 5ml for £6.99, which is definitely quite pricey for what you get, especially when I’ve used better concealers for a cheaper price.
I expected quite a bit from this concealer since I love the foundation, and I planned on using a lighter shade as a highlighter but I was quite disappointed to find a really limited colour range. Concealers are supposed to match your foundation usually so that they don’t highlight imperfections, and provide a higher coverage. The L’Oreal True Match concealer only offers 3 shades, as far as I am aware, which are all quite light, but not as light as I would like, especially comparing it to the range of shades in their foundations. There is a pink undertone shade, a yellow undertone shade and a more darker shade, none matching my foundation perfectly or much lighter than the colour that I use.
The concealer itself is actually really good, it’s really high coverage and lasts quite well and even though it’s not as light as I would like it to be or as cheap as I think it should be, it’s a really good concealer, but not the best.
L’Oreal True Match Highlighter Icy Glow
This was something that I didn’t know the range sold at all and I could not wait to try it. I’ve become a bit obsessed with highlighters lately and I own way more than I need, but I can see this become a strong contender with my current favourite.
The packaging is a simple pan with 2 sections, the first section holds the product and the second section, below the first, holds quite a big mirror and a brush, that honestly, I probably won’t use, but it’s a nice little add on if you’re travelling with it.
The highlighter is in powder from, which I much prefer to cream because they definitely sit better on the skin. There are 3 different shades in the pan, blue, white and a skin tone. At first I was a bit wary about the blue tone incase it made me look a bit washed out, but it didn’t at all. It’s got just the round amount of shimmer and colour to look natural, the white is perfect for highlighting the brow bone, but my favourite, for natural looks has got to be the skin toned shade. With just a little less shimmer, it adds just the right amount of glow to the cheekbones and doesn’t stand out too much. There is another shade available for the True Match highlighter which is much more darker toned for a more golden glow
Out of the 3 things that I tried, the foundation is my favourite, but the highlighter is definitely a close second, I absolutely love both. The only disappointment was the concealer just because you don’t get enough at all, I knew this when I purchased it and saw how small the tube was but I just had to give it ago, although I like it, it didn’t quite win me over.
