NYX Lush Lashes XXL Mascara

You all know how I love my huge mascara’s and that’s exactly what attracted me to the NYX Lush Lashes Mascara XXL. I’m always on the hunt for a new mascara, I seem to have a bit of an obsession with trying them out, so of course, I had to give this beauty a go. NYX have 7 different Lush Lashes Mascara’s to offer, all with different shape & sized wands, all offering something different but I just had to try the largest, which is XXL. NYX state that this mascara will volumise and define your lashes, but it doesn’t state anything about length so let’s see how I got on with it.

I’ve now had it just over a month and been trying it out for you all. I’ve wore it alone, and with other mascaras to see what works best.

As always, the mascara is very wet when it’s first opened, infact, it’s way to wet to work. I had to constantly use another wand to keep my lashes separate and I was forever wiping smudges off my eyelids. I always expect this though, most mascara’s are hard to use when first opened. After a couple of days & leaving the lid open just a bit while I was applying my makeup, it dried up perfectly – although that’s quite a lot of effort to have to put in to just use your new mascara – Once it had dried up it was like I was using a completely different mascara and it was soo much easier to use. But you definitely need to wipe of a lot of excess, especially with it being a humongous brush!

I’d say for length, there’s not much, not really. But the volume and curl definitely makes up for that. It coats your lashes so well, without it clumping them up because there’s so many bristles on the brush to fit around them individually. The curl comes from how quickly the mascara sets and how the brush is shaped. (which differs a lot from the image on the NYX site) The brush is a hourglass shape, which makes it easier to use and easier to push your lashes where you want them to be. The little ‘ball’ of bristle on the end helps you to get into the corner of your eye, but if you prefer a smaller brush, it’s probably better to use a different mascara to get into the corners, same for the bottom lashes too.

When I’ve paired it with either Avon SuperShock or Maybelline Lash Sensational it has worked amazingly. Avon SuperShock defines your lashes incredibly, helping to spread out the volume and Maybelline Lash Sensational also adds to the curl as well as adding beautiful length.

I also think it’s really long lasting, I’ve wore it for 12h+ days and it hasn’t smudges, flaked or dropped. It lasts and it holds. The colour is also jet black with no worry of fading, and the volume helps to add full on definition.

Overall it’s a win from me. I don’t know if I will repurchase because it’s just such a pain at the beginning but I definitely will be keeping the wand for as long as I can (don’t worry I’ll wash it first). I absolutely love the design of this mascara, and it does work incredibly well, but the formula just lets it down a bit. If you like a big mascara, then I can’t recommend buying this enough, even if it is just for the wand itself.

That brush is wild haha. I don’t know if I can handle it, but glad you found a way to make the formula work!

Isn’t it! I love that though! Yeah me too because wet formulas drive me mad haha! Xx

I have such thin lashes that big brush mascaras personally don’t work for me, but I have to say the wand looks amazing. I can’t stand when mascaras are overly wet – they just don’t perform well!

Thanks for the review. Will give one of their other mascara options a try in the future!

Yeah I can’t imagine this working with smaller lashes at all, it’s way too big haha. Definitely! Just ruins it, specially when it could be so good with such a good wand!
The lush lashes range has seven different type of wands I’m certain there’s a smaller one, maybe even with the same style wand!
      Thank you

I’m not sure how to feel about that mascara, I’m semi interested in trying it because I do love NYX but if I have to pair it with other mascara’s I’m a little meh. How many coats of it did you use initially to make it “work” when you used solely just that mascara? I’m looking for something that separates but is a thick coating….

I wasn’t at first, honestly if the brush wasn’t amazing I wouldn’t be interested in it. I always use at least 2 mascaras so I prefer that haha. I’d say 2 coats, but 3 if you want to go full on. it definitely works to separate & it coats the lashes really well. The only downfall is how wet the product is at first
