The Order I Apply My Makeup
A while back I saw Fee, from Makeup Savvy share the order that she applies her makeup [you can read it here] and it made me quite interested to find out how everyone else applies their makeup since we all probably differ from eachother. So, I thought I’d kick it off and share the order that I apply my makeup, when I do a full face.
PRIMER First things first, primer. Quite obvious that this comes first but imagine putting it on after your foundation. Oh dear. I don’t apply anything before my primer because I hate my skin feeling tacky just before doing my makeup, so I’ll usually do my moisturiser etc first thing in the morning when I wake up so it all get’s chance to settle into my skin before I start my makeup.
CONCEALER This isn’t always the way I do it, but if I’ve got any raging spots or redness, I’ll usually use either a green corrector or a bit of concealer before my foundation to just dull the redness down a bit and add more coverage if I feel I need to.
FOUNDATION When I apply my foundation I like to start with a brush, I just find it’s a lot quicker. I usually apply a small amount first and then use a sponge to add a bit more coverage. I’ve always preferred full coverage foundations and applying it this way guarantees that I get the best out of it.
LIGHT CONCEALER This is when I go back in with my lighter concealers under my eyes, across my forehead and down my nose, sometimes I’ll re-add more of my natural concealer to my problem areas if I feel I need to aswell. I’ll go back in with my sponge to blend that in.
CREAM CONTOUR If you’re here a lot, you’ll know how much I love the Maybelline Contour Stick, and this is usually when I apply it, if I’m not planning on wearing powder contour, it differs day to day, depending on what I’m feeling tbh.
POWDER When I’m going for a full face of makeup I can never finish my base without adding powder to set it all. I use a brush first to pat some all over my skin and then I use a smaller sponge so I can get right under my eyes and in to the creases of my nose because that’s usually where I need setting powder the most.
POWDER CONTOUR Like I just mentioned, if I’m not feeling in the mood for cream contour (or I forgot to apply it.. ) I’ll use powder contour to quickly add some definition to my face. I don’t really go mad, I just apply a bit under my cheek bones and around my forehead.
BLUSH Straight after contour I’ll add a bit of blush, usually with the same brush too. I feel like when I do my blush and contour together I can make them look more natural and work with them both to blend them in.
HIGHLIGHT The main reason I do this step just after blush and contour is because I’m usually using it all out of the same palette so it’s just easy, if I’m not, I’ll probably do it last.
EYESHADOW When I’m in full swing I usually move on to my eye shadow next. I can never normally leave it with just one colour, and I never normally do a full lid with the same colour, I usually go for a darker brown on the outer corners, blending into my crease with a lighter colour on the inner corner.
BROWS Pretty simple, I’ll brush them through, add the colour and then go back over them with the brush. I then go over them with a setter to keep them in place for the rest of the day.
MASCARA Applying mascara is my absolute favourite part, I can never feel finished until my lashes are done. I always layer different mascaras one by one letting each set just a little to get me the ultimate bold lash look.
LIPS I don’t always wear something on my lips, quite often I go out with just a lip balm on, but either way, it’s always my last step.
