Rimmel Volume Shake Mascara
My massive addiction to mascara meant that I could not miss giving this brand new ‘shake mascara’ a go. As soon as it hit the shops it was in my bag (I’m meant to be on a spending ban, but lets forget about that) I just couldn’t wait to try it. Rimmel have come up with something very, very exciting for a mascara lover like me, their brand new ‘first to the market’ design features a ‘shaking system’ that is meant to refresh the volumising formula whenever it’s needed. I’m guessing that this new system helps to stop the mascara drying up and clumping in the tube, making it last a lot longer. I mean, I make my way through mascara quite quick, so I wasn’t too sure whether I’d benefit but I just had to give it a go.
I’ve got to admit, I really don’t like the colour of this mascara tube. I have this thing against green anyway but on a makeup product.. not for me, but, I love the shape of the tube. The little lip around the lid somehow makes it easier to use, you feel a lot more in control when applying it and it just seems more comfortable. It’s definitely a lot heavier than your usual mascara, which is obviously down to the thicker packaging and the new contraption that’s inside. You do get a little less product than usual, but it’s nothing dramatic, about a ml or so which is nothing to worry about.
I absolutely love the brush, straight away I knew I’d love it. It’s completely packed with bristles that are all close together to really help separate your lashes. I usually find that plastic brushes kind of push your lashes together rather than keep them apart so I much prefer this type of brush. It adds a really good amount of mascara too, not letting go off too much so you don’t end up with clumps and it spreads it through your lashes perfectly. It’s a regular sized brush so it’s really easy to work with, you can get right into the corner’s and catch every lash without smudging it everywhere, but it does seem a little harder to do you bottom lashes without smudging, but if you’re a little more careful than usual, then it’s not really a problem.
Brand new mascaras are always too wet to judge straight away and this one is no different, that kind of worried me a little with this mascara since the shake system is designed to refresh your mascara – I like my mascara to dry up a little, not too much obviously, but I find really wet mascaras impossible to work with, I prefer them after a couple of uses when it’s started to settle down – I didn’t expect this mascara to do that, but luckily it did after using it a few times so it became a lot easier to use, not as dry as I’d usually like a mascara to be, but it’s good enough.
If you like natural simple lashes, then you can get that with only one coat, but if you’re like me and really go for it you can actually get around 3/4 coats because the mascara takes a little longer to dry than your usual mascara. You don’t have to worry about it clumping up and crumbling apart because it doesn’t, it works perfectly.
It’s quite a thick product, you can feel it latching on to your lashes as you pull the wand through and it spreads right up to the tip. It is primarily a volumising mascara so the majority does cling around the bottom but it does spread and it does add quite a lot of length, especially if you work the brush that way. It’s not the best for curl since it is quite slow drying but it does push the lashes up and hold them once it’s dried.
I’ve tried this mascara out loads now, usually wearing it for longer than 12 hours and it’s lasted, right up until it’s time to take my makeup off. There’s been no irritation even though Rimmels mascara’s do have quite a funny smell to them, no flaking and not a sign of smudging. It’s kept it’s curl basically all day, and it’s not even faded. It’s pretty perfect. As for the shaking system refreshing the mascara, I think it does a pretty good job, I can’t say for definite because I haven’t had it nearly as long as I’d need to, to see if it definitely works but I’ve not had any signs that it might not. I love the fact you can ‘refresh’ it by giving it a shake though, as though your mascara will be all nice and fresh for you each time you apply it, it’s a really good idea and an amazing mascara overall.
