One mascara that I’ve always been tempted to try is the Maybelline Colossal, but for some reason I’ve never picked it up. When I finally decided to give it a go, I saw that there is a Go Extreme version, so of course I couldn’t help myself. It was definitely the brush that swayed me, you should all know by now that I much prefer a big fluffy brush to any other so I was very excited to try it.
The packaging is the same as all the other mascara’s in colossal range, and same as the lash sensational, except this bottle is back and yellow and there’s nothing much else to say about it, it’s not that special but it’s decent. It doesn’t click shut though which is a bit of a disappointment when it comes to mascara since we all tend to get a bit lazy when closing mascara.
First impressions were obviously pretty good, the brush looked amazing, it looks perfectly fanned out and it’s tapered at each end, which always makes it easier to use, but when I actually gave it a go, I knew straight away that it would be hard to avoid smudging it on my lids, especially on my bottom lashes. The consistency is unbelievably wet and I was sooo disappointed because I’d been really looking forward to using it but I stuck with it anyway. After a few days of using it and letting some air get to it, it did start to settle down, not as much as I’d like but it did and it was much easier to use, I’d managed to avoid smudging it everywhere completely. I’m slowly getting used to the fact that near enough every single mascara will be way too wet when it’s first opened, but I’m always hoping that I’ll find a few more that don’t..
After nearly a month of using it, alone and with other mascara’s, I’ve decided that I really like it, sometimes. It’s still wetter than your usual mascara, but it’s okay, even better with a spoolie or other mascara. But I do have a bit of a love hate relationship with it, on one hand I never want put in the effort to use it, but on the other hand, the volume you get from this mascara is pretty intense, you can get a really good amount just from one coat and the brush works to spread out your lashes perfectly across the eye making the eye appear much larger, you can get right into the corners even though the brush is huge and pull out your lashes to fan them so easily. It adds a pretty good amount of length too, quite a lot of mascara’s completely miss the tip of your lashes so you have to manually brush the tops of your lashes where as this mascara does all that for you, completely gripping to each lash right from the bottom and pulling them up all way to the end. The curl is a bit less dramatic compared to the length and volume but it does give a nice push to your lashes and holds them in place all day. So, most mornings I will be using this mascara, only if I can be bothered to work with it..
It lasts as well as any other mascara, sometimes I’ve had a bit of smudging here and there when it’s been a long day, but it’s not water proof so I kind of expect it, on a normal day though it doesn’t budge, and it’s not all often it has smudged anyway, but it is something to mention, especially with how hot it’s been lately. There’s been no clumps or flaking while I’ve wore it and the colours kept well all day too.
I’m not sure if I’d repurchase, the formula is kind of a put off, but for the fact the it works so amazing in everything else is very tempting and the fact that it spreads your lashes more than any mascara I’ve used, I’ll probably be swayed. Overall it’s a decent affordable mascara, and if you can handle to wetness of it you’ll probably love it.
What mascara have you been using lately?
