What I’ve Been Reading // June
I have sooo many books on my TBR from all different genres, but I just can’t stray away from thrillers. I read 6 again last month and I loved every single one which has made me even more addicted than before and I’ve already got my nose stuck in another, of course. Since I ramble I bit too much in these posts, I’ll just let you get on with it, here are the 6 amazing books that I read in June.
Thursday’s Child // ★★★★★
If you read my What I’ve been Reading Posts, you’ll know how obsessed I’ve become with the Freida Klein series after reading all of them once after the other.. But this one, this one was amazing! You’ll probably know how attached you can get to characters, especially when they are part of a series, but Frieda is a bit of a closed book in Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday with just a few hints of her past here and there so I was dying to know more about her and when I read what this book was about, I could not wait to read it. It wasn’t what I expects and to be honest, although I had my suspicions, I couldn’t have told you who the culprit to the crime was, but I could have predicted the end, but they all have become a bit predictable given the backstory, so I don’t really mind, it’s needed to keep it going. Anyway, this book goes back to Frieda’s past, something happened to her when she was younger, no one believed her, but it’s happened again, to someone else and Freida needs to put a stop to it. Gripping and addictive.
Friday on My Mind // ★★★★★
This book, the 5th in the Freida Klein series stirred up a lot of emotions, Sandy, a man that Freida once loved, is found dead and Freida is the main suspect so she has to run and find out what really happened. For the first half of the book, you don’t see Frieda’s perspective at all, it drove me insane wanting to know how she felt and I couldn’t wait to get to a part when you could read what she was thinking, which is probably why I read it so fast. I had no clue at all to who did it, looking back to the beginning of the book, I suspected ‘him’ but completely forgot and when I found I was so shocked, but I loved it, I loved how it was so close to home for reasons that slowly come out on each page turn. I’m so looking forward to re-reading Saturday Requiem now, just waiting till I can get my hands on Sunday Morning Coming Down and I’ve never been so excited for a book before.
Behind Closed Doors // ★★★★★
It was my birthday in May, and the gorgeous Jackie, who runs Makeup & Beyond, surprised me to an Amazon Gift Voucher! So guess what I bought.. Thank you again Jackie for funding my addiction, means the world!
So after seeing the B. A. Paris books everywhere, I had to read them. I completely avoided spoilers, I didn’t even really read what the book was about, I went into it basically knowing nothing about it. Which made it sooo much better so the only thing I’m going to say is ‘the perfect marriage, or the perfect lie?’. For the first part of the book, I actually thought it was a bit slow, but it completely gripped me, I couldn’t put it down because I was waiting for something to happen, which it seriously did around 100 pages in and that was it I couldn’t stop reading. I knew something was off but I couldn’t figure out what and I was quite shocked when all of a sudden the story completely changed and the secret was out. All the way through I was on the edge of my seat, dying to know what was going to happen, and I absolutely loved the set out, leaving you on nail biting cliff hangers at the end of each chapter, although I wish there wasn’t a dog involved..
The Break Down // ★★★★★
If you are looking for a book that’s completely different and absolutely jam packed with suspense, you need to read The Break Down. Again, I went into it knowing absolutely nothing, I didn’t know where the story was going to go, or what the plot was even going to be, which just filled me with so much suspense and so many questions. I got to a point where I had to stop reading for a while because I was getting so inpatient, I loved the suspense but it really did drive me insane. Then all of a sudden, when a mobile phone is found, it all starts to make sense and I was so relieved, but that’s not even it. The suspense continues, there’s another huge twist and a very nail biting ending. I absolutely loved the way it plays with your mind, leads you on and then completely twists it around, it’s definitely one of my favourite books.
Local Girl Missing // ★★★★
It’s sooo hard for me to explain this book, from the off, I was a bit like, hm, maybe it’ll get better, probably going to be a 3 star, then it was like infact, I’m really enjoying this now, bump it up to 4, and then about 60 pages before the end I was like right omg this is amazing, 5 star definitely, but looking back now, because it took like 300 pages for me to decide 5 star, I’ve settled on 4.. For the most part, I was just like oh c’mon just tell me what’s happening, then when it did I was a bit like what!? and had to re-read it to be sure, I was completely shocked that I was so fooled by the whole story, never once thinking who did it could have done it, or the way it even happened! I had my suspicions that it wasn’t going to be straight forward but I didn’t have a clue that it would do a twist like it did. It’s about a girl that went missing back in 97, and her body has never been recovered, her brother wants to find out the truth and brings back her best friend to help him, so you can see where the twists and turns come from, which I crave so I loved it, but I was just so amazed by how well it worked and it’s definitely one I’d recommend, if you’ve got a bit of patience or just love the suspense.
I Found You // ★★★★★
I placed quite a big Amazon order last month just because I wanted this book, I’d seen so many people talking about how amazingly it was written and how addictive it was that I had to see what it was all about. Literally from page one I was hooked and I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some work done. There’s 3 stories going on till they all meet at the end, and there’s loads of points of views which make it a little confusing but it’s not that bad. There’s twists constantly, completely unexpected too. I thought it was going to be a little predictable to where the story was going to go but not at all, then I thought I got it again and it changed again. It was really really good, from start to finish, I’ve been telling everyone I know to read it! So, if you haven’t yet, make sure you do!
