Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara
You might have seen my review of the Maybelline Go Extreme mascara a while ago and be wondering why on earth am I reviewing a mascara that looks pretty much the same – which is exactly what I thought too when I opened it – but I can’t even tell you how much these two mascara’s differ, even though they look so alike and I just had to share this review.
I’ll explain a little bit for anyone who might not have seen both of these mascara’s together. Admittedly the brushes are really different, but they are very, very close. The Go Extreme mascara brush is massive and tapered, where as the Big Shot is a lot smaller and a lot thinner, but the bristles on the brushes are the exact same, I haven’t counted them obviously, but there’s about the same amount on each brush so they are both massively packed and perfectly fanned out which makes both wands perfect for adding serious volume in my opinion. Anyway, after noticing how alike they were, I really didn’t expect there to be any difference between the two, but like I already mentioned, they are definitely very different.
I quite liked the Go Extreme mascara, but I didn’t love it and one thing that really put me off was how wet the formula was, it was actually really hard to use without having to mess around, it did settle down a bit when it’d been used a few times, but no where near as much as I’d have like it to until I was nearly running out, but the Big Shot mascara is completely different, it’s nowhere near as wet and it is soooo much easier to apply. It might not seem like a big deal, but if a mascara is very thick and wet, especially with such a large brush, it completely ruins the look and makes it quite impossible to separate your lashes. Finding out that this mascara’s actually just the right consistency made me love it almost instantly.
I loved it even more the first time I fully applied it, I literally fell head over heals for it because it shocked me so much. I know I’m comparing again, but I really didn’t expect this mascara to be as good as it is because of how disappointing the Go Extreme was compared, I just expected the same really. But the volume and the length, after just the first coat too, was unreal, it reminds me very much of the L’Oreal Paradise mascara. The brush grabbed every lash from the bottom to top and just coated them with so much mascara, comparing one eye to the other it was like I’d just put false lashes on – not even exaggerating – and the length, omg. I even had to be careful on the second coat because I have naturally long lashes anyway, and I was going to end up adding way too much length if I really went for it, so if you have quite short lashes then this mascara is absolutely perfect for you. The curls really nice too, it’s not amazing, but because it’s quite a dry mascara, it does dry quite quickly so it does manage to push up your lashes and curl the ends when you’re applying
I’ve got to admit, I didn’t expect this mascara to last, I mean, it’d been too perfect already to also last all day too, but yet again it surprised me. I’ve been obsessed with it for quite a few weeks now, and in all that time, I’ve not seen it smudge, flake or even drop and some days have been over 14 hours long. This wonderful mascara is definitely up there with my favourites and I know that when I run out, I’ll 100% be repurchasing.
